CoolKote 60 – Swimming pool building Buckinghamshire
What our customer needed/problem:
Temperature control: the swimming pool was unusable on the hottest Summer days, and uncomfortable for most of the Spring/Summer months where temperatures could rise by 10-12 degrees internally. It was also too cold to use during the Autumn and Winter seasons.
Cost implications: the air conditioning was being used at high levels on a frequent basis and the pool water temperature was being raised or lowered more than necessary to try to keep the pupils comfortable which was impacting on costs.
Condensation reduction: the over use of the air conditioning was causing condensation and mildew build up.
Natural light retention: our client was keen to keep the light and bright atmosphere of the pool building.
Visual benefits: our client wanted to enhance the look of the pool area, rather than opt for unsightly solutions.
The solution
We scheduled a site visit to enable us to assess the environment, measure up accurately and discuss all possible filming solutions.
The pool building was made up from polycarbonate panelling, therefore we recommended CoolKote 60, being the product which is specially designed for this material.
- Polycarbonate expands and contracts when heated- CoolKote 60 is designed to withstand this.
- It is engineered with a specific adhesive that forms a durable bond to the polycarbonate.
- It offers UV and heat rejection without overheating the polycarbonate panels which could result in warping or degradation.
- It is non abrasive and lightweight which is important as polycarbonate is softer and more easily scratched than glass.
- It maintains visibility and clarity to ensure good light transmission is maintained.
The film once installed would reduce internal temperatures significantly in the Summer by reflecting the sun’s rays, and provide some insulating properties in the Winter months to ensure the pool could be used throughout the majority of the year.
The air conditioning could be significantly reduced, and the area would be cleaner and more hygienic by reducing mildew build up, contributing to health and safety objectives.
The CoolKote 60 would offer an unobtrusive look and complement the overall appearance of the pool area without unsightly or unhygienic solutions being used.
Installation process
TS Window Films strives for a flawless installation for every client, and always follow protocols and procedures to ensure this is strictly maintained. For the purpose of school premises work we are DBS checked, provide Risk and Method statements, and are fully insured.
Preparation: the pool was emptied, the tower installed into the pool area for access which we organise and provide as a fully comprehensive service. The panels were then cleaned with an ammonia free solution. For this job we worked in teams of 2-4 dependant on the plan for the day.
Custom measurement and cutting: each pane was measured by the installers and the film cut precisely using our own cutting machines on site.
Application: using a wet application method, the film was installed to 240 panes throughout.
Quality check and clean up: the film was inspected to ensure a flawless application, and a final check of the install with the facilities manager took place.
Results
Temperature control: the CoolKote 60 will now be effective in temperature regulation to ensure the pool can be used throughout the seasons, particularly in cooling the area in Summer months.
Light and bright interior: the pool building remains light and airy for the pupils to enjoy.
Long term cost benefits: the CoolKote 60 will replace costly interventions such as high level air conditioning and the pool water can be maintained at a consistent temperature.
Health, safety and hygiene: the mildew build up is far lower due to replacing air conditioning with solar control film.
Customer satisfaction: our client was extremely pleased with the outcomes of CoolKote 60 and has started to experience the benefits, and also reported on the efficiency at which we could install to ensure minimal disruption to the schedule. With our team on the job we could offer dates to start and complete within school holidays, organised all access necessary, received the deliveries on site ourselves for optimum convenience, and ensured the pool area was cleaned and ready to be refilled on schedule.
